Destiny 2 is an online-only multiplayer first-person shooter video game developed by Bungie and published by Activision. It was released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 6, 2017, followed by a Microsoft Windows version the following month. It is the sequel to 2014’s Destiny and its subsequent expansions. Set in a “mythic science fiction” world, the game features a multiplayer “shared-world” environment with elements of role-playing games. Players assume the role of a Guardian, protectors of Earth’s last safe city as they wield a power called Light to protect the Last City from different alien races. One of these races, the Cabal, lead by their emperor, Dominus Ghaul, infiltrate the Last City and strips all Guardians of their Light. The player sets out on a journey to regain their Light and find a way to defeat Ghaul and his Red Legion army and take back the Last City.

Like the original, activities in Destiny 2 are divided among player versus environment (PvE) and player versus player (PvP) game types. In addition to normal story missions, PvE features three-player “strikes” and six-player raids. A free roam patrol mode is also available for each planet and features public events as well as new activities not featured in the original. These new activities have an emphasis on exploration of the planets and interactions with non-player characters (NPCs) on the planets; the original Destiny only featured NPCs in social spaces. PvP features objective-based modes, as well as traditional deathmatch game modes. All PvP game modes are four-versus-four, a change from the previous installment, which featured six-versus-six, three-versus-three, and two-versus-two variants. Bungie has already announced two expansion packs for the game, which will further the story and add new content and missions. The first expansion, Curse of Osiris, will release in late 2017, while the second expansion is planned for release in spring 2018.

Upon release, Destiny 2 was received positively, with many calling it a major improvement over its predecessor.

  1. I would like to thank you for the nice review. I know you don't tend to like the bullet spongy borderlands style gameplay, but I think you addressed your bias really well.

  2. What are the specs of the computer you played this on? I tried the Beta on my i7-4790, 8gbs of Ram, and RX 580 but still had stutters from time to time during a lot of heavy combat. Have they fixed the issues entirely?

  3. great review! I was deciding whether or not to purchase this game and decided not to based on this review. You were fair and the information that I was looking for was provided in your video. Thanks a lot!

  4. If you ask me it's just another cash grab. Another FPS with boring grinding, micro transactions, a game handed to you in bits, holds your hand through the game not letting us think for ourself. I do think the shooting is satisfying and that's it.

  5. anyone else find opening chests in this game really lackluster? I didn't play too much on ps4, but from what i can tell you never actually see your guns in the chest, they just appear in the corner of your screen as a square picture. I feel like loot games should have the loot be a tangible thing in the game, complete with colored loot beams like diablo or borderlands.

  6. What the hell happened to clever AI in games? Better and better AI seemed to be a thing through the 90s and into the early 2000s, then what, enemies that stand out in the open? We still reference FEAR as a masterclass in AI, and the game was released in 2005.

  7. Boring, easy campaign, run past monsters or just stand in front of them, they don't do any damage to you, no need to aim downsight either, Exotics and legendary items are thrown at you with no effort needed to get them, makes the items feel pretty much useless. Im glad i didn't get this trash, not worth 60$, oh and the dialogue and jokes are really dry, would probably make children laugh, but not intelligent adults.

  8. Character creation is pretty bad and they all look like playdoh, I feel in mmo type games you need to have some good character customization, its not a deal breaker for me its just nice to have.

  9. So is there no reason to play Destiny 1? I have no idea WTF the setting is even about. You shoot guys with red health bars and there's blue people and a wizard on the moon. That's about it.

  10. Destiny fan here. When you said at the end that you feel like you've just scratched the surface… that's how it felt for me and my buddies. A few weeks later (and no, we didn't play daily) there is nothing to do. Five strikes on PC, one raid, some PvP… and now go and repeat until you're done with your milestones for the week. Then come back next week and redo that. And what for? Numbers I guess… because the guns we get are all the same (you even pointed that out although you made it out to be a good thing).
Compared to D1 which was getting long in the tooth D2 is a shell of its former self. The campaign is much better though.

Glad you enjoyed it for what it is.

  11. Dude what the fuck? Destiny 2 is a repetitive pile of crap. How the heck did you not shit all over the monotonous, repetitive semi-automatic spamming bullshit this game is? You barely touched on the end-game which is 99.9% of the game after the sub 10 hour campaign. Did you even play the game a good amount in the end-game? It's just a massive grind of doing the same thing, and soaking up to thousands of bullets into bosses to gain just a few points. It's the repetitive raid progression of WoW, in a shooting game where you are fighting for basically %1.1 damage and health upgrades. i.e. the Borderlands Perks system. You didn't pull your tongue out of Bungies arsehole at all. We get it if you like the game but at least be honest at what it is. It's an ~8 hour campaign on repeat with enemies that scale with your level. After that, it's an endless slog of the same 8 hours all over again, forever. Whilst you get 1% boosts and so does your enemy so nothing really ever changes. I really lost my shit when you said that "by the time the expansions come out, I still doubt anyone has scratched the surface of Destiny 2". Man pull your fucking head in.´, for the 4th time, it's an 8 hour campaign game. Even Halo 1 has a longer campaign and a less repetitious feel to it. This thing sells for $80-100 bucks, you have a duty to your viewers to protect them from buying overpriced shit.

  12. Just play Warframe, its free, it came out first, it's better than both destiny 1 and 2 combined, and they constantly do updates giving its current player base an actual endgame, unlike Destiny 2 which has no reply-ability sorry I had to say it.. at least Warframe has over 30 classes hundreds of mods to build your own skill trees. after 2 months you new players will understand. Warframe has 500+hours of content just to get to the end game missions..
There are literally free to play games that do it better than AAA and these destiny guys… why'd you take out so many things that worked in the first game that didn't even need reworked in this one? and then didn't even fix any of the old issues.. literally started playing Warframe again because they are putting out more and more content every month that isn't even a competition anymore they are actually fixing countless and numerous amounts of bugs and glitches and it's still buggy but at least we're seeing active progress on an almost weekly basis compared to most AAA games that don't even do that just trying to prepare for day one sales by hyping up the pre-order and trying to show as little actual gameplay as possible then forgetting about them a year later and I hope with the next game you really step it up because I'm not buying this one..(not the next one either because bungie/activision failed) I still haven't bought it, but I have played it.. and I'm not impressed I'm smarter than that smarter than the sheep that just blow away money then say "i hope the next update/game fixes this" already wasted a hundred fifty bucks on the first game and they're DLCs all that crap that eventually was replaced died out, and you guys just forgot about it, so who the fuck even Plays destiny 1 anymore? I was pissed that bungie made a sequel instead of making a "ten year plan" to update destiny 1 make the better game more polished and add a gary raid dlc and add the new classes which in my opinion would have been better.. we would still have a better skill tree not a dumbed down version for kids.. destiny was already a dumbed down version of halo.. still other games that are better, their player bases are growing in the tens of millions.. so what's stopping me from going to these other games that have hours and hours even months of gameplay and replayability the player base is constantly growing for a reason its pure fun, instead of buying a game that's dying off instantly after day one..

when I can't even have fun with this piece of crap anymore I'm just burnt out on Destiny I guess.. I can still enjoy og halo, but these developers are getting way too corporate for my tastes..

Warframe is even getting an open world just in time to pass time by for Destinys update so…

Fuck AAA it's all sketchy and scummy business tactics that people in Banks and casinos would use on ppl it's in music, media, facebook, now they're REALLY using it on us with games more and more every year (and really not giving a fuck if it's blatantly a scam right in front of my face)
instead of making quality games, they're just pushing sales for day one deals and pre-orders putting a game on shelves year after year, while other quality games have just been sitting there and working on themselves for years it takes over 4 years to make a good game so I don't know why people just keep on buying these AAA games and they're putting them out year after year or at least one every three years when it takes like 10 years to make a good game of course they're going to be unfinished. They're just selling their image and hiding the best stuff behind a paywall pre-order to get early access now get blahblah half off includes weapon for free lol…
(This is what I call the no man's sky sales model, the pay to play/win structure)

I'm sick of this crap and will only support people making games because they love to do it and do it right not because they want to appeal to EVERYBODY including the rich, children, sheep, or just coasting off the dread of all these people sick of getting ripped off by games you can only enjoy for 5 minutes.. that's almost theft in my eyes.. using subliminal messages and
Psychology tactics to trick people into thinking they want that new thing because there is nothing better when there is something worth more quality hidden in the potential of what we have..

I just don't like it when they take steps back just to make a cheap game that looks good. then rely on the image to sell.. just look at mass effect.. no man's sky, trove, absolver, sw battlefront, they are all unfinished crap games that people decided to release just for the money which tells me they gave up on their games.

the only thing I can say about destiny is the pvp is better, but that's because in destiny your character runs slower, your super takes fucking forever to charge, but in Destiny 2 half the missions are gone half the raids are gone half the skill tree is gone purposely taking steps back to make their game dumbed-down for children, or way too balanced for pvp tried too hard as made pvp too generic, just to make it easier, just to point click and shoot instead of actually having skill.. I guess destiny has vehicles too but I can basically fly I don't need them.. I'm just sad destiny could've been amazing if it had become it's own thing but it's just a cheap shit show to sell to kids day one pre orders.. I know what I'm talking about I've played both.. now most of Destiny's player base is suckered in like sheep saying.. "I hope they fix it with the next update" when you already paid for it.. meanwhile, I'm playing basically the same thing except better and free. break free while you still can.

  13. Any game is like a 60 dollar steak, you can enjoy eat for as long as you want but after a certain amount of time you wonder if it was worth it

Usually when the bill comes but

  14. Damn, how wrong can you be about the content. As a die hard destiny payer on consoles, most players where already bored after about 3 weeks including me. Strikes etc are useless after you reach about level 270 and the only good gear come from completing milestones once a week, nightfall and raid. In the end you hit level 300+ in about 3 weeks and after that there is no incentive to play anymore. The raid falls short in terms of experiences compared to the more journey like raids of D1. Now its just 3 challenge rooms and a boss. Compared to the taken king raid which portrayed a long journey into a space ship with multiple bosses, multiple challenges and after that finishing up with a huge boss.

  15. I was addicted to Destiny and played it nearly every day for months on PS4, the shooting is really satisfying and the guns have weight and punch to them and looting and leveling up is addictive. I like Destiny 2 for the same reasons and it is a cool game but there's something missing right now, hopefully I'll like it more once the expansions come out.
